The Air Cadet League of Canada (ACL) is pleased to offer prestigious post-secondary education scholarship awards to Royal Canadian Air Cadets. They are the Birchall Scholarship, the Dale Scholarship, the Thomas Colfer Scholarship, National Legion Foundation Scholarship, the Alex Venables Scholarship in Engineering, the ACL Advisory Council Scholarship, the Air Cadet League of Canada Foundation Scholarships and the CN Memorial Scholarships.

In the process of evaluating the applications, for the academic component, the focus is on the following subjects: (a) Languages; (b) Mathematics; (c) Physical Sciences; and (d) Social Sciences. It is important that the most recent report card or transcript include these courses.

Applicants are required to complete the fillable ACC64 Application Form (form can be found here), and submit it in digital form (PDF), along with supporting documentation to the Air Cadet League of Canada, at: leaguehq@aircadetleague.com. The email should be titled beginning with your name and National Education Scholarships such as: Fred Jones National Education Postsecondary Scholarships 2021.

Air Commodore Leonard J. Birchall, CM, OBE, DFC, O.Ont, CD, LL.D, D.Sc.M, and Mrs. Kathleen Birchall, have been long-time generous supporters of the Royal Canadian Air Cadet movement across Canada, but especially of Air Cadets enrolled in squadrons of the “Birchall Wing” in the Eastern Ontario Area. Last year the award consisted of a $5,000 scholarship.

Dale Scholarship

Robert Gordon Dale, DSO, DFC, CD, and Mrs. Mary Dale, have given exceptional service to Canada in times of both war and peace. This has been especially so in their support of Royal Canadian Air Cadets. Robert Dale served as the National President of the Air Cadet League of Canada in 1972-1973, and as the Honorary President of the Air Cadet League of Canada from 1983 to 2013. Last year the award consisted of a $2,500 scholarship.

Thomas Colfer Scholarship

Thomas Colfer was a World War 2 Navy veteran. He bravely served on warships escorting convoys during the Battle of the Atlantic and the Murmansk Run. Two of his nephews were Air Cadets. Last year the award consisted of a $5,000 scholarship.

Legion National Foundation Scholarship

Established in 2017, the mission of the Foundation is to fund four pillars across Canada: Veteran’s Wellness, Education, Pilgrimages and Scholarships and bursaries. The Foundation has identified the Cadet Leagues as intended recipients of funding in the amount of $2500. For the Air Cadet League of Canada, this amount is awarded to a deserving cadet to pursue post-secondary education at an accredited institution in Canada.

Alex Venables Scholarship in Engineering

Presented in recognition of Gerald Gilroy’s generous contribution made to the Air Cadet League of Canada, in trust, for the annual National Educational Scholarship that will be known as the “Alex Venables Scholarship in Engineering”. Students must be entering directly into a full time program of study in the field of engineering. The award consists of a $2,500 scholarship.

Air Cadet League of Canada Foundation Scholarships

The primary mandate of the Foundation of the Air Cadet League of Canada is to provide graduating Air Cadets with assistance for post-secondary education. The Foundation also supports other Air Cadet programs from time to time and in response to specific requests. The applicants must have completed high school and enrolled in a college or CEGEP technical program or in a vocational program of at least 6 months at a recognized educational institution or be deemed a full-time student even if studying part-time. The awards consist of three $1,500 Scholarships in 2021.

ADVISORY COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP

he Advisory Council consisting of Past National Presidents who have been involved with the Air Cadets Organisations for many years are please to support cadets in the continuation of their studies.
The award consists of a $1,000 Scholarship in 2021.

CN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

All Canadians were deeply saddened to hear about the CH148 Cyclone crash that took the lives of six members of the Canadian Armed Forces including SLT Abbigail Cowbrough and SLT Matthew Pike of the Royal Canadian Navy, and Capt Brenden MacDonald, Capt Kevin Hagen, Capt Maxime Miron-Morin and MCpl Matthew Cousins of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Capt Brenden MacDonald, Capt Kevin Hagen, Capt Maxime Miron-Morin were formerly air cadets, and SLT Abbigail Cowbrough was formerly both an air and sea cadet.

For the training year 2020-2021, CN is offering Educational Scholarships for a total value of $60 000 to honour the memory of the 6 military personnel who lost their lives in the helicopter crash. Four were in the Royal Canadian Air Force therefore the sum of $40,000 is dedicated for Air Cadet Scholarships. These awards consist of 8 scholarships of $5,000.00 each.
